Dr. S. R. Ranganathan proposed that an orderly arrangement of library materials would save time for the reader. Does Dewey still do that in today's libraries? Did it ever? Using examples from school and public libraries of all sizes and locales, we will trace the trend away from Dewey (and touch on why) to discover different options for arranging your library, from BISAC categories to custom-made genrefication schemes. This session may be best suited to library workers who have not had formal cataloging/classification courses, or for those who may have had one but are interested in how classification is evolving.
