The societal role of libraries in modern times has diverged significantly from what is historically expected. Progress in technology and library philosophy has expanded the variety of services that can be offered. The resulting shift from collection to community-oriented methods is not without its problems. Solutions will be derived from an architectural perspective. They will be split into two categories: form and function. Explored concepts will include accessibility, lighting, perspective, wayfinding, floorplans, acoustics, and more. Examples will be utilized to show efficacious implementation of these ideas. Library services are being reimagined over time and so to must library architecture.
