Whether it’s called “critical cataloging,” “inclusive metadata,” or “metadata justice,” discussion centering around conscientious application of metadata has been at the forefront of many catalogers’ and archivists’ minds as we contend with outdated descriptive practices and consider how offensive or outdated terminology may affect our users. But what if you’re not in the trenches with catalogers and metadata specialists and want to know what you can do to advance the cause of inclusive metadata? This presentation will cover what catalogers mean when we talk about these topics, examples of work being done to advance this cause, and how you can help!
