Never have we seen a technological intervention with as much promise and peril as artificial intelligence. In one breath, we extol the potential of A.I. to cure cancer and optimize efficiencies. In the next, we wonder if this godlike technology will displace labor, exacerbate bias, increase surveillance, escalate polarization, and ultimately lead to civilizational collapse. Truly, when it comes to A.I., we are all just winging it. This presentation focuses on how supercharged A.I. affects two pressing information challenges, misinformation and censorship, and aims to start a conversation about our profession’s role in addressing these information challenges.
